Becoming an Alpha Validator

To become a validator, you need to acquire a minimum of 100,000 LYC and stake them. During each epoch, the 60 highest-staked candidates become validators. The staking pool is distributed 30–70 between validators and delegators. A delegator can stake any amount higher than 1000 LYC, up to a total of 70% of the pool. However, the strength of a validator is also determined by the number of people staking as delegators in the staking pool.

The Epoch Cycle: Based on the Lunar Cycle

The Lycanchain epoch cycle is uniquely based on the lunar cycle. The lunar phases are as follows (Emojis represent the moon as seen in the Northern Hemisphere):

Using Julian date, the current phase of the moon can be calculated by finding the lunar age as a percentage through the lunar month, which is approximately 29.53059 Earth days. This makes every epoch cycle about 7.3826 days or approximately 212,620 blocks. To increase efficiency, the epoch cycle on Lycanchain’s lunar system is approximately 212,520 blocks.
